Wet Pace Unrewarded For Harry King at Spa

Octane Finance-backed racer Harry King made a triumphant return to the top step of the podium with a masterful performance as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season continued apace at Knockhill.

Harry - the current Porsche GB Junior Driver and defending champion - went into the weekend keep to challenge for a first win of the season, and he laid down a marker in pre-event testing by topping the times in his Team Parker Racing-run car.

Come qualifying, Harry would secure third place on the grid, which left the Octane Finance-liveried car in a strong position going into the opening race.

A strong move on lap one of the race allowed Harry to move up into second place, but he found himself trying to chase down a rival that has elected to run new tyres on his car - thereby giving him the advantage of running on fresher rubber.

Whilst it meant Harry was unable to challenge for the win, he had more than enough pace to break away from the field behind as he crossed the line to take a solid second place.

The reverse grid draw put Harry back to fifth place and he battled his way ahead of double title winner Dan Cammish early on to move into fourth place before a safety car was called due to a stranded car on the side of the circuit.

Moving up to third when a car ahead retired, Harry made light work of fighting his way into the lead after the restart with impressive moves on Lewis Plato and Josh Malin on successive laps enabling him to hit the front.

After a second caution period, Harry pulled away from the chasing pack to secure a comfortable first win of the season to maintain his championship challenge ahead of the next round at Croft in September.

"I didn't think it would take until now to get my first win of the year, but I'm delighted to be back on top of the podium," he said. "It's been another highly competitive weekend in the Carrera Cup but Team Parker have given me a great car and I've been able to show strong pace across the meeting.

"In the opening race, I think I did what I could against Lorcan when he was running on new tyres as obviously that gave him an advantage, and to them come from fifth to win race two around Knockhill is very pleasing.

"I had to make some strong and decisive overtakes to make it to the front, particularly with the safety cars disrupting things, and once I got into the lead I was able to pull away at the front.

"It would have been nice to get the fastest lap as well, but overall we've scored some good points this weekend and will look to repeat it next time out at Croft."
